Nick Orsborn RI

Born in London in 1948, he studied Fine Art at Kingston and Reigate Colleges of Art. After living in Brighton for many years he has recently moved to Worthing in West Sussex. Largely self-taught in the use of Watercolour, it has been his medium of choice for the past 50 years.

His work has been widely exhibited in the UK and fine art poster images of his watercolours have been distributed and sold worldwide ove the past four decades.

His figurative paintings are largely concerned with expressing the joy of life, not its darker aspects, often from a perspective of humour and gentle irony.

In 2007 he was elected a member of The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (RI) and he exhibits his paintings each year at the RI Annual Exhibition at The Mall Galleries in London.

Nick also procuces a wide range of digital prints of his work on archival paper and canvas. Many of these can be purchased online from this website.

Cicada Jewellery

Founded in 1973 by Nick Orsborn and Pat Thornton, Cicada Jewellery operated from its Brighton studio/gallery, selling nationally and internationally to major fashion and retail outlets, gaining a worlwide reputation for the quality and originality of its designs. Buyers included Liberty, Biba, BodyShop, Macy's, Neiman Marcus, and the V & A, which has several examples in their 20th Century Jewellery Collection. Commissioned work was also undertaken for Zandra Rhodes and the BBC.

Production ceased in the early 1990s but in 2003 Cicada was relaunched by Nick Orsborn and as well as re-introducing many of the earlier designs, which have aquired classic status, he has designed and created a contemporary collection of earrings, brooches and necklaces which demonstrate casting resin's inherent qualities of clarity, colour, inlaying, veneering and mouldability.

All Cicada Jewellery is produced exclusively by Nick Orsborn in his Worthing workshop/studio and will only ever be available in strictly limited quantities.
